This is #02 Burler Tool — an engine-turning tool that cuts swirl patterns into gilded surfaces. Engine turning breaks up the flat gold with overlapping arcs that catch the light as you move past the work.
Work over fully sized and dried leaf with light, even pressure in overlapping rows. Practice the pattern on scrap gilding first — the rhythm matters more than the force.
