Silver Leaf Kit, Basic Water

The minimum kit for water-based gilding in silver — for reverse glass gilding and mirrors.

It includes a water gilding mop, a full book of genuine .999 pure silver leaf, and Gilders Gelatin Size. The mop applies the sizing, and when dry it dusts the excess leaf off, the same job as cotton. Lay the leaf on the sized glass, let it dry, dust off the excess, then protect the back. Silver tarnishes over time where gold does not, so clearcoat is more often wanted on silver work within reach.

• Gilder's Dusting Mop Brush, series RP8 size 10 — applies the sizing, and when dry dusts the excess leaf off
• Silver Leaf .999 Pure Loose book, 25 sheets — genuine .999 pure silver leaf
• Gelatin Size for Water Gilding Gold Leaf by Gilders — water gilding size

Customer supplies their own: cotton and backing paint or varnish are not in the kit. For reverse glass work, the backing paint goes over the leaf on the back of the glass to protect it.
