Agate Stone - Flame - Flame This is Agate Stone — a polished stone burnisher for water-gilded gold. Burnishing compresses the leaf onto the clay ground and brings up the mirror shine that makes water gilding unmistakable. Work the stone over fully dry leaf with firm, even strokes, always in the same direction — the stone's polish is what polishes the gold. Keep the stone clean; any grit scratches the leaf. Use it for sign painting and pictorial gilding on musical instruments and decorative objects. Dog-tooth points get into moldings and carved detail; broad faces cover flat areas. Wipe down after use and store dry. Replace consumables before they fail mid-job — running out halfway through a gilding session costs more than the refill. Details
