Gilding Tip - Single (4") - Natural Kazan Squirrel Hair - Escoda - Escoda This is Gilding Tip — a gilder's tip for lifting and laying gold leaf. The tip carries a static charge that picks the leaf off the cushion and releases it onto the tacky size — the fundamental gilder's move. Charge the tip by drawing it across your hair or cheek, slide it under the cut leaf, and lay the leaf down in one smooth motion. Keep the tip clean and dry; oil or moisture kills the static. Use it for water gilding over gesso and clay on signs, panels, and dimensional letters. A good tip, kept clean, will serve for years of daily gilding. Never store a brush resting on its point. Hang or lay flat, keep out of direct heat, and never leave soaking — soaking swells the ferrule and ruins the set of the hair. Details
