Imitation Gold (Composition) (Patent) #2.0 - 5-1/2" Pack - Nazionale This is Imitation Gold (Composition) (Patent) #2.0 — composition gold leaf (the trade calls it Dutch metal or schlagmetal) that gives the look of gold at a fraction of genuine leaf's cost. It's real metal leaf — a brass alloy made for gilding — that cuts, lifts, and lays just like the genuine article. Patent (transfer) leaf is pressed to a tissue backing so you can press it straight onto the sized surface — faster to lay, ideal for large flat areas, outdoor work, and oil-size gilding. Composition leaf is the smart buy for practice, stage work, props, crafts, and large areas where genuine karat leaf would break the budget. Use it for glass gilding and reverse-glass work on interior architectural detail and moldings. Seal composition gold leaf every time — unlike genuine gold, it tarnishes without a protective topcoat. Store flat, dry, and sealed — composition leaf tarnishes in damp air even before it's laid. Keep it off the bench with your genuine leaf so the two never mix mid-job. Details
