Imitation Silver (Schlagaluminum) (5,000 leaves) - 6-1/4" - Nazionale This is Imitation Silver (Schlagaluminum) (5,000 leaves) — composition silver leaf (the trade calls it Dutch metal or schlagmetal) that gives the look of silver at a fraction of genuine leaf's cost. It's real metal leaf — an aluminum alloy made for gilding — that cuts, lifts, and lays just like the genuine article. Surface leaf is the classic loose-leaf booklet for hand gilding — each leaf interleaved with tissue, ready to pick up with a tip and lay onto your prepared ground. Composition leaf is the smart buy for practice, stage work, props, crafts, and large areas where genuine karat leaf would break the budget. Use it for oil gilding with slow or quick size on picture frames, mirrors, and furniture. Seal composition silver leaf every time — unlike genuine gold, it tarnishes without a protective topcoat. Store flat, dry, and sealed — composition leaf tarnishes in damp air even before it's laid. Keep it off the bench with your genuine leaf so the two never mix mid-job. Details
