Selhamin German Dry Clay Yellow (1000 g) - W&B Gold Leaf This is Selhamin German Dry Clay Yellow (1000 g) — clay for gilding, stocked by Letterhead Sign Supply for working gilders and sign painters. Right clay under the leaf is what makes gold stay put and shine; this is the shelf the trade buys from. Gilder's clay (bole) is the colored ground under water-gilded gold — it cushions the leaf, warms the color that glows through thin spots, and gives the agate something to burnish against. Brush it over gesso, let it dry, and lay your leaf. Use it for oil gilding with slow or quick size on picture frames, mirrors, and furniture. Choose the clay color for the warmth you want under the gold — red and yellow boles are the classic gilders' grounds. Store sealed and at room temperature; keep water-based sizes from freezing. Stir or shake gently before use and strain out any skin that forms on top. Details
