Abalam Straight Strips: Donkey Ear Abalone Ply

Warm golden-brown donkey ear abalone with flowing, ear-like figure and soft glowing depth. An unusual warm-toned abalone that bridges the gap between gold pearl and true abalone color.

Abalam laminated straight strips — super-long strips cut across the veneer ply sheet (never lengthwise), giving deeper, more consistent color that will not sand away. Computer-cut to even widths with squared ends, so joints fit tight and stay nearly invisible. About 13 pieces run one edge of a Martin-style dreadnought guitar.

Working with this shell

Dry-fit your run, then glue piece by piece, keeping joints tight. Sort strips into light and dark groups for matched work, or alternate them for a pulsing rhythm along the run. Because Abalam breaks evenly with no fracture lines, trimming to length is predictable.

SURFACE INLAY ONLY: these laminated strips are .050″ thick and are made for surface inlay work — purfling, binding, carving and sign making. Not recommended for reverse glass work due to thickness.
