About this book

A Treatise on Electric Sign Building in Picture Form, A & W Electric Sign Co., 1915. Building electric signs — in pictures — back in print.

The electric sign was the wonder of the 1910s streetscape, and this 1915 treatise shows how they were built — in picture form, as the title promises: the construction, the wiring, the letters, illustrated for the trade by a working sign company. 57 pages of the new industry's practical knowledge, drawn not described.

For the sign historian it documents the moment the trade went electric; for the collector of sign ephemera it is a scarce illustrated piece from a working shop. A fascinating bridge between the painted sign and the neon age — the missing link on the shelf.

The 1915 electric sign builder's picture book, reproduced complete.

Back in print as a hardcover built to last on the shop shelf.

Details: 6×9" hardcover (case laminate), 58 pages, black and white interior, cream paper.

⚠️ Please read before ordering — about print quality

This is a print-on-demand reprint of a scanned historical document. The pages were scanned from an original 1915 printing, and the print quality of your book reflects the condition of that original scan.

What that means in plain terms: you may see faded text, uneven inking, age spots, show-through from the back of pages, and other imperfections that were in the 1915 original or introduced by the scanning process. These are preserved as-is — they are not printing defects, and they are not something we can fix.

We are not responsible for the condition of the original source material. If you want a pristine modern typeset book, this isn't it. If you want the actual 1915 manual with all its character intact, you're in the right place.
