Alan Johnson engineered the Extreme Liner for one unforgiving job: outlining gold lettering, where a wandering line ruins everything. The Size 0 carries 1 inch of blue squirrel hair past the ferrule, and blue squirrel is famous for holding a heavy paint load while drawing a very fine line a very long way. The bright orange handle is easy to locate on a car dash mid-job.

A nickel ferrule completes the construction, seating the hair so the liner tracks true through tight intricate passages. Gold-leaf artists use it to outline leafed letters; sign painters trust it for pinstripe borders and crisp outlines around emblems. The natural hair keeps flowing long after a synthetic would run dry.
