About this book

Illustrated Sample Book & Price List of Palm's Patent Transfer Letters, Ornaments & Trade Designs, 1901. The turn-of-the-century catalog for transfer letters — back in print.

Before vinyl and plotters, there were transfer letters: the Palm Letter Co. of Cincinnati sold patent transfer letters, ornaments, and trade designs that let any shopkeeper letter a window or sign without a painter's hand. This 1901 sample book shows the full line — illustrated alphabets, ornament cuts, and trade designs, complete with the original price list.

For the vintage lettering manual collector, it is a window into how lettering was sold as a product; for the working sign painter, it is a book of period alphabet and ornament designs ready to be adapted to modern work. The 58 pages are a concentrated dose of 1901 commercial lettering fashion — every style the trade offered, priced for the ordering customer.

An unusual survival from the lettering-supply trade, reproduced complete.

Details: 6×9" paperback, 58 pages, black and white interior, cream paper.

⚠️ Please read before ordering — about print quality

This is a print-on-demand reprint of a scanned historical document. The pages were scanned from an original 1901 printing, and the print quality of your book reflects the condition of that original scan.

What that means in plain terms: you may see faded text, uneven inking, age spots, show-through from the back of pages, and other imperfections that were in the 1901 original or introduced by the scanning process. These are preserved as-is — they are not printing defects, and they are not something we can fix.

We are not responsible for the condition of the original source material. If you want a pristine modern typeset book, this isn't it. If you want the actual 1901 manual with all its character intact, you're in the right place.
