About this book

Spanjer Bros. Illustrated Catalogue and Price List of Wood Signs (Catalog E), 1909. A genuine antique sign catalog from the golden age of the trade — back in print.

Spanjer Bros. of Newark, New Jersey sold ready-made wood signs to painters and shopkeepers across America, and this 1909 catalog shows exactly what the trade offered: illustrated wood signs of every description, complete with the price list that tells you what a working sign cost in 1909. For today's sign painter, it is both a fascinating historical document and a working design reference — the sign styles, lettering fashions, and commercial layouts of the era, reproduced from the original catalog.

Collectors of antique advertising and sign-trade ephemera will prize it as an original piece of the industry's paper trail. The 100 pages are illustrated throughout — every sign shown as it was sold, priced as it was priced.

A rare survivor from a Newark sign manufactory, reproduced complete for the modern shop.

Details: 6×9" paperback, 100 pages, black and white interior, cream paper.

⚠️ Please read before ordering — about print quality

This is a print-on-demand reprint of a scanned historical document. The pages were scanned from an original 1909 printing, and the print quality of your book reflects the condition of that original scan.

What that means in plain terms: you may see faded text, uneven inking, age spots, show-through from the back of pages, and other imperfections that were in the 1909 original or introduced by the scanning process. These are preserved as-is — they are not printing defects, and they are not something we can fix.

We are not responsible for the condition of the original source material. If you want a pristine modern typeset book, this isn't it. If you want the actual 1909 manual with all its character intact, you're in the right place.
