Gilding cushions — the gilder's pad for cutting gold leaf with a gilding knife. Quality cushions are softened doeskin over a soft pad on wood (cheap pads are velvet); deluxe versions come with a folding wind screen for outdoor work.
We carry English and Italian cushions. Tip from the bench: cut leaf from the bottom of the book, not the top — cutting top-down marks every leaf below it, and no amount of burnishing removes those marks.
