Also included are 767 ornamental panels, which are based on the first 46 "masters". That's a total 528 megs of 19th Century eye candy! Each of the ornaments included throughout the 3 CD Trilogy Series has been meticulously hand vectorized. Painstaking attention has been given to every line and node of all 3,033 ornamental images to assure the highest quality vector art possible. Plotter ready, as no lines overlap in any of the Trilogy series. There are as few nodes (or points) used to render the ornaments as possible. This will become evident when you realize that a vector image as detailed as this example is only 88K in size! What this means to you, the crafts person, is that files will open faster, plot faster, and be easier to manipulate and customize. Some masters have fewer, some more; but, all told, there are 199 master variations included on the Ruby Collection CD. Some will be very similar to it's parent, while others are very different.

The story behind the designs

Before vinyl and computer cutters, the finest ornament on a carriage or wagon was a transfer — printed decals that sign painters bought from a catalog, cut apart, and applied by hand. The country's great source of those transfer ornaments was the Palm Brothers Decalcomania Company of Cincinnati, established in 1868 and described as America's first decal manufacturer. In the early 2000s, Don Coplen worked from an 1880s Palm catalog that came from the collection of his friend and fellow lettering artist Rick Glawson (Fine Gold Sign Co.). Glawson believed the fragile, undated catalog was from the 1880s, and from its pages Coplen meticulously hand-redrew 92 master ornaments — then built thousands of corners, ends, and panels from them. Every illustration in this collection was hand-vectorized, with no automatic vectorizing used, and each file is saved in both AI 3.0 and EPS 3.0 formats.
